School bus impacted by gas leak
21 February 2012
Carbon monoxide fumes on a school bus saw two children taken to hospital and another two treated at the scene.
The bus was travelling to Swaffham Hamond’s High School in Norfolk at 8.45am when it had to pull over in nearby Beachamwell.
Two youngsters, poisoned by the fumes, were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn. They were described by a spokeswoman for East of England Ambulance Service as being “fully alert but having breathing difficulties”.
Meanwhile, paramedics treated another two at the scene.
Spokeswoman Lorna Marsh said: “Crews in two rapid response vehicles and two ambulances assessed the casualties on scene before taking two of them to hospital.
“The rest of the children continued their journey to school.”
Swaffham Hamond’s High School is a specialist maths and computing college.
A gas leak can indicate an imminent breakdown, therefore having comprehensive
breakdown cover is vital.
