Concrete block dropped onto car
20 February 2012
Another driver has been injured after a concrete block was dropped from a bridge onto his car.
The 23-year-old man was driving under the Stafford Road bridge on the A442 in Telford, Shropshire, when the block smashed through the car’s windscreen and landed on the rear seat.
He managed to maintain control and pull over to the hard shoulder, and suffered bruising to his ribs.
West Mercia Police are calling for witnesses and are keen to speak with a lorry driver who passed under the bridge at the same time and may have information.
There have been a number of similar incidents recently. All drivers should ensure they have
breakdown cover to protect them if they have to make an emergency stop on the motorway.
Chief Inspector Keith Gee from West Murcia Police said: “The driver on this occasion was extremely lucky he was not injured more severely and that he was able to keep control of his vehicle. It was also extremely lucky that there were no passengers in the car.”
“Throwing anything, especially concrete blocks, at passing vehicles is an extremely dangerous practice and could result in a serious road traffic collision and of course death.”
